It's a work in progress (Beta of course. I am looking for cool logo but this one from Web 2.0 Logo Creatr will do for now!)

Remember The Milk

Remember The Milk (RTM) is a one year old start up from Australia that incorporates the GMail mantra of Tag and Search into a To Do List application. The interface is quite untuitive and it only took a couple of hours to get to grips with (the Help section is excellent, and the couple of questions I asked in the Forums were responded to in a timely manner)

The key elements that led me to choose RTM over other To Do/Task software are as follows:

Tasks can be created via Email and an RTM bookmarklet as well as in the application itself.

RSS Feeds

Tagging

Reminders by Email, IM and SMS

Simple interface

Keyboard shortcuts

GMap intergration (Locations)

ICal compatability

Smart Lists

NB Email to SMS functionality is not universal, Virgin Mobile UK does not support it, also street address search is not available to third party applications in the UK so the RTM Locations functionality is somewhat limited.

It's the last point that has proved to be the killerist for my purposes, as we shall see later.

The Set Up

For those not familiar with GTD check Wikipedia and MineZone for overviews, and Merlin Mann's 43 Folders site and Punkey's What's The Next Action for detailed exploration of the topic.

The basic concepts of GTD are: Get Stuff out of your head and into a trusted system. Do or Defer. (I am by no means an expert so bear with me, this is a learn by showing process for me)

The GTD Workflow is as follows;

Collect Stuff

Process Stuff

Organise Stuff

Review Stuff

Do Stuff

Next time we will look at the actual set up of "milky GTD" and see how it fits into the GTD workflow

Tasks And Lists Mightier Than The Sword?

I am currently waging a personal war against 'bad living', by which I mean circumstances that have appeared because I haven't taken the t ime to avoid them ie moderate debt, general unwellness, stuck-in-a-rut career, lack of direction. Nothing immediately life threatening, but these things add up you know.

My main weapon weapons in this engagement are Tasks and Lists. Inspired by Getting Things Done and more specifically all the GTD Hacks and Flavours, I am developing my own battleplan to defeat the insidious axis of antipathy.

Every good campaign deserves a slogan, mine is 'Healthy, Wealthy, Happy and Wise'

Over the next few weeks I will be reporting on my progress and reviewing tools and techniques that will hopefully help me towards these goals.
